Northland Communications, formerly known as Northland Cable Television, was an American cable television, telephone, and internet service provider operating in smaller markets across the United States. As of November 13, 2018, Northland was acquired by Vyve Broadband and now operates under its ownership. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, with a divisional office in Statesboro, Georgia. It serves customers in Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
John S. Whetzell is the founder and has served as Chairman of Northland Communications Corporation since December 1984. He was also Chief Executive Officer of Northland Telecommunications Corporation from March 1982 to May 2014. Whetzell holds an undergraduate degree in economics from George Washington University and an MBA from New York University. His career in the cable television industry spans over 29 years, including roles as Chief Economist of the Cable Television Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from 1974 to 1979, where he supported deregulation efforts and developed industry accounting standards. He later led Ernst & Whinney’s national cable television consulting services from 1979 to 1982.
Gary Jones currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Northland Cable Television Inc. The company provides services in various cities across its operational states, including Aliceville, Alabama; Mount Shasta, California; Statesboro, Georgia; Sandpoint, Idaho; Forest City, North Carolina; Greenwood, South Carolina; Corsicana, Texas; and Moses Lake, Washington.
