The Citadel Farsley
The Citadel, originally known as Throstle Nest, is a football stadium in Farsley, part of the City of Leeds. It serves as the home ground for Farsley Celtic and holds a capacity of 3,900, with 400 seats. During the 2007–08 season, it also hosted Leeds Met Carnegie.
The history of The Citadel dates back to 1948 when Farsley acquired the site after World War II, establishing it as their football ground. The club aimed to upgrade the facility and attract larger crowds from the Leeds area, aligning with ambitions to achieve league status. However, they faced financial struggles and were relegated, eventually amassing a debt of £750,000 by the 2009–10 season, leading to their expulsion from the Conference North.
Leeds City Council stepped in to purchase the ground, preserving it for community use. Farsley Celtic reemerged and resumed playing at The Citadel in the 2010–11 season.
The stadium features two stands: the Main Stand, located on the south side with club facilities, and the West Stand, known as the "Shed End," favored by fans for its view of the goal. Both stands are covered and have minimal obstructions. The North and East ends allow standing unless restricted. Additional amenities include an indoor sports arena and an outdoor pitch used by junior teams.
