Taj Samudra, trading as TAL Lanka Hotels PLC, is a five-star luxury hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange since 1982 with majority ownership by Taj Hotels. Located opposite Galle Face Green and facing the Indian Ocean, it is one of Colombo's oldest five-star hotels and ranked 78th among Sri Lanka's most valuable brands in 2021 by Brand Finance. The hotel was incorporated in 1980 and listed on the stock exchange two years later. In 1992, a suicide bombing near the hotel killed Admiral Clancy Fernando of the Sri Lanka Navy. After a $20 million renovation in 2018, it aimed to boost occupancy rates by 5-8%. Despite being named a "Great Place to Work" consecutively for five years, employee turnover increased. During the Easter bombings in 2019, one perpetrator targeted Taj Samudra's breakfast buffet but detonated his bomb at a motel. CCTV footage showed him acting suspiciously inside the hotel. In 2020, four staff members tested positive for COVID-19. During the India national cricket team's tour in 2021, the hotel was booked exclusively for the team, but player Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19. The hotel features 300 rooms and suites with ocean or city views, six restaurants including Navratna (Indian), Golden Dragon (Chinese), Crab Factory (seafood), andPorts of Call (buffet and à la carte).
