Serbia and Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest
Serbia and Montenegro participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 2004 and 2005. Their debut in 2004 with Željko Joksimović's "Lane moje" was successful, finishing second overall. The following year, No Name's "Zauvijek moja" placed seventh. The national broadcaster, Udruženje javnih radija i televizija (UJRT), selected entries through the national selection process Evropesma. In 2006, UJRT planned to participate but withdrew due to a scandal involving allegations of tactical voting by the Montenegrin jury during the national selection. This led to tensions between Serbian and Montenegrin broadcasters. Serbia and Montenegro retained their voting rights in the contest despite withdrawing. Following Montenegro's independence referendum in June 2006, both countries began participating separately in the contest starting from 2007. Prior to the formation of the State Union, Serbia and Montenegro competed as part of Yugoslavia from 1961 to 1991. In 1992, they represented the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia but were banned from participating in 1993 due to UN sanctions during the Yugoslav Wars. This absence lasted for over a decade. UJRT joined the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in 2001, making Serbia and Montenegro eligible to participate in Eurovision again. They attempted to join in 2003 but were unable due to concerns about relegation rules. Their debut in 2004 was highly successful, with "Lane moje" finishing first in the semi-final and second overall. In 2005, No Name's entry placed seventh in the final.
