Saroj Kumari Gaurihar
Rani Saroj Kumari Gaurihar (1929–28 August 2022) was an Indian writer, politician, and freedom fighter born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. She belonged to the princely state of Gaurihar and served as a Member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1967 to 1972, representing Chandla constituency. During her tenure, she worked towards developing the area. She participated in India's freedom struggle, joining the Quit India Movement in 1942 and being jailed for a year in 1943 alongside her parents, who were also freedom fighters.
Gaurihar authored several books, including poetry collections like *Anand Chhalia* and *Mandvi Ek Vismrita*, published through the Udayan Sharma Foundation Trust. She was associated with literary organizations, such as serving as the President of the All India Braj Sahitya Parishad in 1968 and chairperson of Nagari Pracharni in Agra.
Married to Raja Pratap Singh Bhudev of Gaurihar, she was the last Rajmata and queen of the state. Her father, Jagan Prasad Rawat, served as a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. Gaurihar passed away on 28 August 2022 at age 93 in Agra. She received tributes from several dignitaries, including the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Union Ministers, who acknowledged her contributions to literature and politics.
