Leong Mun Wai

Leong Mun Wai, born in 1959, is a Singaporean politician and former investment banker, currently an NCMP since 2020. He served as the PSP's Secretary-General from 2023 to 2024. Born into a large family in Chinatown, he attended Raffles Institution, studied economics in Japan on scholarship, leading the student association there, and later earned a master's degree in London as a Sloan Fellow. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

His career began at GIC, followed by roles in global investment banks before returning to Singapore in 1997. He worked at OCBC Securities and DBS Vickers, now heading Timbre Capital. He also served on the Singapore Exchange's disciplinary panel.

Joining PSP in 2020, he ran for office unsuccessfully but became NCMP, stepping down as assistant secretary-general to focus on parliamentary duties. He later became Secretary-General until resigning in 2024 due to a Facebook post controversy.

In Parliament, he faced conflicts with ministers and proposed motions, with academics noting his confrontational yet folksy style. Politically, he advocates for protecting jobs from foreign competition, caps on foreign workers, minimum wage, reduced GST, increased reserve use, housing scheme reviews, abolishing the GRC system, opposing certain laws, and COVID-19 related votes.

Personally, Leong is fluent in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
