Iain Wood sporting director

Iain Wood is an English football director currently serving as Sporting Director at EFL League Two club Barrow. Previously, he worked as a football agent for 15 years, representing high-profile players and managers through his own agency and New Era Global Sports. His experience spans the Premier League, English Football League, and National League, with notable collaborations with Chris Wilder and Alan Knill.

In May 2022, Wood joined Barrow, overseeing on-field activities, including player recruitment, development, and training facilities. He appointed Pete Wild as manager, describing him as his top choice. During his tenure, he managed significant squad changes, including 14 departures and 13 arrivals, such as signing Sam Foley.

In April 2023, Wood initiated plans for a B Team to nurture local talent and provide a pathway into the first team. That summer, Barrow relocated their training base to FC United of Manchester’s facilities, enhancing their resources. Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Wood appointed Stephen Clemence as Head Coach after Pete Wild's departure. The club notably faced Chelsea in a league cup fixture, highlighting their ambition despite the challenge.
