Gohar Dashti is an Iranian photographer and video artist. Her work often focuses on her native country, its topography and history of violence. Her earlier work looks at the effects of the Iran-Iraq War on the people and the land. Her recent work is focused on the natural world. She was born in Iran and grew up in Ahvaz. She studied photography at the University of Tehran. In 2009 she was named one of the most successful women photographers in Iran. She has had many solo exhibitions. The images she creates are meant to be relatable. Dashti's work allows an alternative perspective to that of mainstream photojournalism. She wants them to be accessible. She says that she wants the work to show how people are affected by war.
