Kosana Eswara Rao, known as Eswar, was an influential Indian film poster designer and painter primarily associated with Telugu cinema. Over a 35-year career, he designed over 2,600 film posters for movies in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages. His innovative techniques included using a knife instead of a brush and experimenting with line-drawing designs, which set new industry standards. Born in 1938 in Palakollu, Andhra Pradesh, Eswar's artistic talent emerged early when he drew a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi that received widespread praise. After leaving his studies, he moved to Madras (now Chennai) and worked at Ketha Studios before establishing his own design studio. Eswar's career highlights include designing posters for films like *Sakshi* (1967), *Alluri Sitarama Raju*, and creating a 12-sheet poster for *Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose*. By the 1970s, he became a leading figure in Indian cinema, collaborating with major production houses and artists. In addition to his film work, Eswar authored *Cinema Poster*, earning him the Nandi Award in 2011. He also received the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2015, making him the first publicity designer to do so. Along with his brother Brahmam, he founded Jaya Ads and developed Telugu fonts widely used today. Eswar contributed to other creative fields too, including painting images of Lord Venkateswara for Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams calendars. His personal life included a marriage to Varalakshmi, with whom he had two sons and two daughters.
