David Nurney
David Ian "Dave" Nurney, born on 28 May 1959 in Edmonton, London, is an English bird artist known for his work in ornithological illustration. He began illustrating birds at a young age and earned a diploma in communication design (graphics and illustration) from the Epsom School of Art in 1981. From 1990 to 2013, he contributed articles and illustrations to *Birdwatching* magazine. Nurney has illustrated numerous bird identification guides and scientific publications, including volumes six to eight of the Handbook of the Birds of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa (1992–1994) by Stanley Cramp and Christopher M. Perrins. He also created illustrations for *Woodpeckers of the World* (1995), which won the British Birds Magazine Best Bird Book of the Year award. Other notable works include *Nightjars of the World* (1998), *The Pocket Guide to Birds of Britain and North West Europe* (1998), and contributions to the *Birds of Armenia Project*. He illustrated a color plate of nightjars in the fifth volume of the Handbook of the Birds of the World (1999) and contributed to books such as *Birds of East Asia* by Mark Brazil (2009). Nurney has collaborated with authors like Les Beletsky on eco-travel guides and with Dominic Couzens on identification cards for difficult-to-identify British birds, published in 2013. He is also involved with the N.O.A. bird observatory at Holme, where he serves as illustrator and photographic editor for annual reports.
