Daughter of Swords
Daughter of Swords is a solo music project led by Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, an American musician known for her role in the band Mountain Man. After nearly a decade away from Mountain Man, she began recording solo material but temporarily paused to help release their album *Magic Ship* (2018). She later resumed her solo work under the name Daughter of Swords and released her debut album, *Dawnbreaker*, on June 28, 2019, through Bella Union. The album features collaborations with Nick Sanborn from Sylvan Esso and includes guest vocals from Mountain Man members Amelia Meath and Molly Sarlé on tracks like "Grasses" and "Long Leaf Pine."
The title of the project, *Daughter of Swords*, references a tarot card symbolizing overcoming past obstacles to move forward. *Dawnbreaker* received widespread critical acclaim for its blend of folk music with emotional depth. Reviewers noted its themes of heartbreak, hope, and transformation, with tracks like "Long Leaf Pine" and "Shining Woman" particularly praised for their intimacy and musicality.
In addition to her solo work, Sauser-Monnig co-founded The A's with Mountain Man bandmate Amelia Meath in 2022. Their debut album, *Fruit*, was released later that year. She also released the single "Alone Together" in October 2024.
