Centre for Development Environment and Policy at SOAS University of London
The Centre for Development, Environment and Policy (CeDEP) is a research and teaching centre within SOAS University of London's Department of Development Studies. Specializing in distance learning postgraduate programmes, CeDEP focuses on climate change, sustainability, and development. It emphasizes the need for professionals with interdisciplinary skills to address environmental issues, poverty, and their ethical, political, economic, social, and technical dimensions. Research areas include climate change, energy, food systems, and sustainability education, led by Director Professor Thomas Tanner.
Established 27 years ago, CeDEP originated at Wye College, later becoming part of Imperial College before joining SOAS in 2011. It offers Master's programmes in Climate Change and Development and Sustainable Development, along with PhD opportunities. Research streams cover climate change policy, resilience and adaptation, low carbon energy transitions, agricultural development, food systems, poverty reduction, and sustainability education.
Located at SOAS's Russell Square campus within the College of Development, Economics and Finance, CeDEP was historically part of Wye College as DLP, then Imperial College before moving to SOAS. Its programmes and research aim to equip professionals with the skills needed to tackle global challenges effectively.
