Bagavathi is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language gangster action film written and directed by A. Venkatesh, starring Vijay and Reema Sen, with supporting roles from Jai, Vadivelu, Ashish Vidyarthi, K. Viswanath, and Yugendran. The music was composed by Deva. Released on 4 November 2002 during Diwali, the film became a commercial success and was later remade in Kannada as *Kashi from Village* (2005). The plot revolves around Bagavathi, who runs a tea shop with Vadivelu and lives with his younger brother Guna. Guna’s relationship with Priya is opposed by her father, Easwarapandiyan, leading to humiliation for Bagavathi when he tries to intervene. After Guna and his friend Anand are killed by Easwarapandiyan during an attempted marriage, Bagavathi mourns but vows to protect Priya, who becomes pregnant with Guna’s child. With the help of Anjali and Vadivelu, Bagavathi transforms into a gangster to overcome obstacles set by Easwarapandiyan and ensures the safe birth of his brother’s child. Ultimately, he avenges Guna's death by killing Easwarapandiyan. Production began with Lakshmi Movie Makers initially working on *Unnai Ninaithu* with Vijay, but creative differences led to Vijay's departure, replaced by Suriya. The project was later redeveloped as *Bagavathi*, directed by Venkatesh, who cast Jai for his resemblance to Vijay. Filming took place in Chennai, Nellore, Araku Valley, Vishakhapatnam, and Sydney. The soundtrack features six songs composed by Deva, with "Allu Allu" inspired by Hisham Abbas's *Nari Narain* and "July Malargale" based on Anand Raaj Anand’s *Jaana*.
