Associao de Jovens da Fonte do Bastardo
The Associação de Jovens da Fonte do Bastardo (AJFB) is a sports organization based in the civil parish of Fonte do Bastardo, municipality of Praia da Vitória, on the island of Terceira in the Azores. It primarily focuses on volleyball, with its men's team competing in the Portuguese Men's A1 League. The association also includes women's and youth teams that participate in futsal.
Founded on 21 October 1975, AJFB was officially recognized on 2 November 1979. Initially headquartered at Casa do Povo for 15 years, it moved to its current social headquarters on 21 October 2001. The organization gained prominence in national volleyball championships, eventually reaching the Carglass Division Major League. Key athletes such as Paulo Machado, Fabiano Sousa, and André Sá contributed to the team's rise.
AJFB received a medal of merit from Praia da Vitória's municipal council in 2001 for its 25th anniversary and Azorean Senior Men's Championship win. It advanced to the A1 Division after winning the A2 National Men's Senior Championship in 2005. The team began playing at Pavilhão Municipal Vitalino Fagundes on 25 September 2005. In 2011, the Azores regional legislature awarded AJFB the Autonomic Insignia of Civic Merit during Azores Day celebrations.
The men's volleyball team has achieved significant standings in the Portuguese leagues, including multiple championships and top placements. Notable achievements include winning the Portuguese Championship in 2010–11 and 2015–16, the Portuguese Cup in 2012–13, and the Super Cup in 2022. The 2019–2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
