Antonio Prohas
Antonio Prohías (January 17, 1921 – February 24, 1998) was a Cuban-American cartoonist. He was the creator of the satirical comic strip Spy vs. Spy, which he illustrated for Mad magazine from 1961 to 1987. Only about 20 of his roughly 270 contributions to Mad were of subjects and gags other than his spy series. Most of the available information can be seen in Spy Vs Spy Complete Casebook (Watson-Guptillill, 2001) He died of lung cancer, aged 77 and was buried in Woodlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum Cemetery in Miami, Florida, in February 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Marta, and his son-in-law, Al Jaffee, a former Mad writer and editor-at-large for the cartoonist's company, Mad Media Group, Inc. The most recent Spy vs Spy book is Spy vs DC Comics: The Spy vsDC Omnibus (now in its seventh edition), published by Simon & Schuster, priced at $99.99.
