An Qiyuan
An Qiyuan (July 1933 – 23 April 2024) was a Chinese politician who served as the Party Secretary of Shaanxi from December 1994 to August 1997. Born in Lintong, Shaanxi province, he joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1953 and graduated from Northwest University's Geology Department in 1956. His early career focused on the mining industry, where he held various leadership roles, including heading the Petroleum Exploration Bureau of Heilongjiang Province, Songliao, and directing the Daqing Oil Mine.
An transitioned into politics in 1988 as a member of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Standing Committee. He later became the party chief of Xi'an and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of Shaanxi Province. In 1993, he attended the 14th CPC National Congress. From 1994 to 1997, he served as Shaanxi's provincial Party Secretary. After this role, he was a delegate to the 15th CPC National Congress.
In 1998, An became Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), where he advocated for causes such as flood prevention on the Wei River, support for mentally challenged children, rural income improvement, national oil strategy, and urban poverty alleviation. He retired from public life in 2008. An was also a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. He died at the age of 90 on 23 April 2024.
