The 2021 Saudi Super Cup, sponsored by Berain, was held on 6 January 2022 at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh. Al Hilal defeated Al Faisaly 4–3 on penalties after a 2–2 draw to win their third title, becoming the most successful team in the competition. The match marked Al Hilal's fifth appearance and second consecutive one in the Super Cup, while it was Al Faisaly's debut.

Initially scheduled at the King Fahd International Stadium, the final venue was changed to Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium due to unspecified reasons. This stadium, built in 1969 and opened in 1971, has hosted numerous domestic cup finals and international events like the 1972 Arabian Gulf Cup. It holds a capacity of 22,500 and is used by Al Hilal, Al Shabab, and the Saudi national team.

Al Hilal qualified for the Super Cup by winning the 2020–21 Saudi Professional League on 23 May 2021. Al Faisaly earned their spot by clinching their first King Cup title on 27 May 2021. The final was the first meeting between the two teams in a cup competition and only their second competitive encounter overall, with Al Hilal winning all prior matches except for seven draws and one win for Al Faisaly outside of this context.

The match ended in a penalty shootout after the scores were tied 2–2. This victory marked Al Hilal's third Super Cup title, surpassing Al Nassr's previous record of two titles.
