2013 European Amateur Team Championship
The 2013 European Amateur Team Championship took place from July 9–13 at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club in Silkeborg, Denmark. The club, originally established as Silkeborg Golf Club in 1965, merged with Ry Golf Club in early 2013 to form a 54-hole facility. The event featured 16 national teams, down from previous years. Each team consisted of six players competing in two days of stroke-play, with the top five scores counted each day. The competition included a second division, the European Men's Challenge Trophy (later renamed Division 2), held in the Czech Republic, which allowed qualifying teams to join the next year's championship. The tournament format divided teams into Flight A and Flight B based on their qualification standings. Flight A teams competed in knockout matches, with quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. Teams could use up to six players for matches, selecting different lineups for foursome and singles games. Flight B teams played similar knockout matches to determine final positions. Team France led after the opening 36-hole competition but ultimately fell short of winning. Team England triumphed in the final against Scotland to claim gold, marking their 11th title. Team France secured bronze by defeating the Netherlands. Norway and Wales were relegated to Division 2 for 2014, while Finland qualified as the host nation for the next event despite finishing 15th. The competition also saw Rory McNamara (Ireland) and James Ross (Scotland) tied for the lowest individual scores.
