The 2008 Pittsburgh Pirates season was the 127th season of the franchise. The team finished 67–95, the team's 16th straight losing season. Pittsburgh was the second in the franchise's 122-year history to have no pitchers win 10 games. The Pittsburgh Pirates ended the season with a record of 50-58. The first season under new president Frank Coonelly, general manager Neal Huntington, and manager John Russell. The season was also the final of play-by-play announcer Lanny Frattare's 33-year tenure as Pirates' broadcaster. He died in February 2009. The club moved to PNC Park for the 2008 MLB Winter encampment. The Pirates made the playoffs for the first time in 28 years after winning the 1995 World Series.
