The 2008 ASEAN University Games, officially known as the 14th ASEAN University Games, was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 11 to 21, 2008. This marked Malaysia's third time hosting the event after previously organizing it in 1984 and 1993. Approximately 1,789 athletes participated in 219 events across 21 sports. The host nation, Malaysia, topped the final medal tally.

The games utilized 24 venues: nine in Kuala Lumpur, 14 in Selangor, and one in Negeri Sembilan. The event's logo featured a red brush stroke human figure symbolizing high spirit, glory, victory, power, and strength, with stars representing athletes' ambitions. The font combined Century Gothic and Trajan styles to reflect the mix of formal and informal agendas, while its stair-like arrangement signified the pursuit of success. The colors—blue, red, white, and yellow—represented the Malaysian flag, ASEAN logo, and member nations' flags.

The official mascot was A1 Angkasawan, a friendly astronaut symbolizing Malaysia's 2007 achievement as the first ASEAN country to send an astronaut to space. The mascot's mortar board represented academic excellence, while its chest logo embodied sportsmanship. Its colors also reflected Malaysia's hosting role and excellence in organizing the games.

The theme song, "Menggapai Bintang" (Reach for the Stars), was composed by Mohd Zaki Bin Ahmad from Universiti Malaysia Pahang, sung by Shahnizal bt. Mohd Arshad, with lyrics by Ahmad Fedtri Bin Yahya. The torch was designed as a pen, symbolizing its common use in universities worldwide.

Myanmar did not participate in the games.
