Fender Bullet
The Squier Bullet guitar series, introduced in 1967 as an affordable option under the Fender brand, has evolved into a line of budget-friendly instruments known for their low cost and accessible features. Initially sold through music stores like Sam Ash, these guitars were popular among beginners despite using lower-quality materials.
In the 1980s, Squier became Fender's Asian subsidiary, leading to the production of more budget models such as the Bullet Stratocaster and Mustang, which offered similar features to Fender's mainline guitars but at a reduced cost. These models were equipped with basic hardware and pickups, appealing to entry-level players.
From 2005 onwards, Squier introduced various configurations of the Bullet Stratocaster and Mustang, including short-scale versions like the Mini Strat for younger musicians. By 2015, Fender positioned the Squier Bullet as its lowest-priced line at around $150, using basswood bodies and minimal paint to reduce costs while still utilizing decent pickups and tuners akin to the Affinity series. Most models now feature top-loading hardtails.
Additionally, the Squier Bullet Special (1999–2005) was a single-pickup humbucker model with laminated wood bodies, available in multiple colors and produced in Indonesia. Fender also markets Bullet strings, characterized by cylindrical ends for improved tuning stability, available in various materials including nickel and stainless steel.
Overall, the Squier Bullet series has remained a reliable choice for beginners and budget-conscious players, evolving to meet changing market demands while maintaining its affordable appeal.
