Hallau is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland. It is an old market town that is now a winemaking village. Hallau has a population of 2,014, of which 15.0% are foreign nationals. Most of the population speaks German (91.9%), with Albanian being second most common ( 3.3%) and Italian being third ( 1.7%). The most popular party was the SVP which received 52% of the vote in the 2007 federal election. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated, with 81% having completed upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule). Hallau is located on the south foot of the Hallauerberg. It has an Oceanic Climate (Cfb) with an average of 118.6 days of rain or snow per year and on average receives 806 mm (31.7 in) of precipitation. The precipitation rates are somewhat lower when compared to other places in northern Switzerland due to the Klettgau region's location in the rain shadow of the Black Forest mountains.
