Moreirense FC
Moreirense Futebol Clube, founded on 1 November 1938 in Moreira de Cónegos, Guimarães Municipality, Minho, is a Portuguese professional football club competing in the Primeira Liga. The club stages home matches at Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, which accommodates 9,000 spectators.
Moreirense ascended to the second tier (Liga de Honra) in 1995 and made their Primeira Liga debut in 2002. Notably, they won the Taça da Liga in 2017 and secured second division championships in 2014 and 2023. The club experienced fluctuating fortunes over the years, including relegations and promotions driven by various managers.
Key milestones include their first major national title, the Taça da Liga, achieved in 2017, defeating S.C. Braga in the final. Under manager Ivo Vieira, they attained a sixth-place finish in the league during the 2018-19 season, marking their highest-ever position. After being relegated in 2021-22, Moreirense promptly returned to the Primeira Liga by winning the 2022-23 Liga Portugal 2 with an impressive 79 points from 102 possible.
