Aerobiz
Aerobiz is a business simulation video game released in 1992 by Koei for the Super NES, Mega Drive/Genesis, FM Towns, PC-9801, and X68000 platforms. The game places players as the CEO of an international airline competing against three other airlines, either AI-controlled or human opponents, with a limited time to become industry leader. Players can name their airline, invest in routes, purchase planes, and manage peripheral businesses like hotels and shuttle services. Gameplay is influenced by world events such as politics and natural disasters, with Cold War restrictions lifted post-Perestroika.
The game features two playtime frames: 1963–1995 and 1983–2015, each starting from a different point in airline history. Players choose a headquarters city, with some cities offering more resources than others. The difficulty level affects passenger numbers, world events, and win conditions. Airlines can be acquired by purchasing shares, and the game ends when players link all 22 cities and carry a specified number of passengers while remaining profitable. Bankruptcy occurs after four quarters of negative balance, and a loss is declared if no player meets win conditions within 32 years.
Aerobiz has two sequels: Aerobiz Supersonic (1994) for SNES and Mega Drive/Genesis, and Air Management '96 (1996), released only in Japan for Sega Saturn and PlayStation. The game received positive reviews, with critics praising its strategic depth and player freedom to manage airline operations.
