The CCGS Cape Fox is a motor lifeboat operated by the Canadian Coast Guard as part of the 36-unit Cape-class fleet. Along with her sister vessel, CCGS Cape Norman, she serves the northern coast of Newfoundland, based at Lark Harbour. Constructed in 2002 at Victoria Shipyards in British Columbia, both vessels were transported from Vancouver to New York City and then proceeded under their own power. The Cape Fox is built from marine-grade aluminum, with a displacement of 20 short tons (18 t), measuring 47 feet 11 inches (14.61 m) in length and 14 feet (4.3 m) in beam. She features two Detroit DDEC-III 6V-92TA diesel engines providing a combined 870 shaft horsepower (650 kW) and is equipped with two 28 by 36 inches (710 mm × 910 mm) four-blade propellers. The vessel accommodates four crew members and five passengers. With a maximum speed of 25 knots (46 km/h; 29 mph) and a cruising speed of 22 knots (41 km/h; 25 mph), the Cape Fox has a fuel capacity of 400 US gallons (1,500 L; 330 imp gal) and a range of 200 nautical miles (370 km; 230 mi). Designed for challenging conditions, she can operate in winds up to 50 knots (93 km/h; 58 mph) and waves of 30 feet (9.1 m), capable of towing ships displacing up to 150 tonnes (170 short tons).
