Loren Munk (born 1951) is an American painter and vlogger known for his figurative oil paintings influenced by Cubism and Neo-Expressionism, often featuring elaborate mosaic frames. He gained prominence in the early 1980s with exhibitions in New York City at galleries like J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. In the 2000s, Munk shifted focus to exploring art history and theory through his work. Since 2005, he has documented the New York art scene under the pseudonym James Kalm on YouTube channels such as *The Kalm Report* and *Rough Cuts*. These videos are shot from a first-person perspective, with Munk cycling to events and offering commentary. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pocatello, Idaho, Munk served in the U.S. Army in Germany before moving to New York City, where he attended the Art Students League. His work is featured in major collections globally and has earned him international recognition and commissions. Beyond painting, Munk has curated shows, published art reviews, and contributed to the promotion of the Williamsburg arts scene.
