Coaster Works
Coaster Works, known as Jet Coaster Dream in Japan, is a roller coaster design and construction simulation game for the Dreamcast console, published by Bimboosoft. The game progresses through levels with increasing difficulty, starting from a "kiddie" themed park. A direct sequel, Jet Coaster Dream 2, was released in Japan on November 2, 2000, but North American and PAL releases were canceled for 2001. A third game, Rollercoaster World, developed by Takara and published by D3 Publisher as part of the Simple 2000 series, was released in Japan on July 24, 2003, and later in Europe by Midas Interactive Entertainment on May 21, 2004, for the PlayStation 2.
The game received mixed reviews. While IGN gave it favorable reviews, GameSpot provided mixed feedback before its U.S. release. Eric Bratcher of NextGen criticized the game's graphics as bland but acknowledged its fast engine, comparing it unfavorably to a real amusement park visit in terms of duration and value. In Japan, Famitsu scored the first Jet Coaster Dream at 28 out of 40, the sequel at 25 out of 40, and the PlayStation 2 version at 27 out of 40.
