Dominic Peter Mancini, born on August 1, 1956, is a Canadian politician and lawyer. He was elected to the House of Commons in the 1997 federal election as part of the New Democratic Party's breakthrough in Nova Scotia. During his tenure, he served as the NDP's justice critic in the 36th Canadian Parliament and represented the riding of Sydney—Victoria until his defeat in the 2000 federal election by Liberal Mark Eyking. After moving to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, he unsuccessfully sought re-election in the 2006 federal election in the riding of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour against incumbent Michael Savage. Mancini was educated at Dalhousie University, where he held positions on the Dalhousie Senate and as Vice President of the Student Council. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1982. His legal career included working for Nova Scotia Legal Aid in criminal and family law since 1986, with a brief interruption to teach at the University College of Cape Breton. On December 12, 2014, he was appointed Queen's Counsel. In his political career, Mancini played a significant role in advocating for increased pension packages for coal miners and an economic diversification fund following the shutdown of coal mines operated by the Cape Breton Development Corporation. He also contributed to the federal government's remediation program for the Sydney Tar Ponds.
