Jacob Stolt-Nielsen Jr., a Norwegian entrepreneur, founded Stolt-Nielsen Limited and revolutionized the maritime industry by creating the parcel tanker concept. He diversified the company's ventures into tank containers, offshore oilfield services, and aquaculture. His journey began as a shipping trainee in New York, leading him to establish Parcel Tankers Inc. in 1959, which now operates over 150 ships transporting various chemicals.

Stolt-Nielsen expanded into aquaculture with Sea Farm A/S in 1972, later selling but retaining certain businesses. He also ventured into offshore services through Stolt-Nielsen Seaway, renamed and eventually sold to Subsea 7. Recognizing the need for storage, he acquired terminals starting in the 1970s, developing a global network.

In 1982, he acquired United Tank Containers, making STC the largest provider of tank containers. Retiring as CEO in 2000, he remained a director and played a pivotal role in navigating legal challenges with the DOJ in 2003, successfully acquitted in 2005.

Stepping down as chairman in 2009 at the company's 50th anniversary, Stolt-Nielsen left a legacy marked by numerous awards for entrepreneurship. His family includes four children, two of whom are involved with the company, reflecting his enduring influence on both business and family spheres.
