Brian Falconer
Brian Terence Falconer (1933–2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played for West Perth in the WANFL and Hawthorn in the VFL. Born in Perth, he began his career with North Perth in juniors before joining West Perth in 1952. Injuries hindered his early years, but he excelled as a wingman. He also played cricket and worked as a clerk while serving in the Army Reserve.
In 1956, Falconer moved to Hawthorn, influenced by his coach and job opportunities. Despite VFL residency rules, he became a key player, earning recognition as "Best First Year Player" in 1957 and "Most Consistent Player" by 1958. His career was curtailed by work commitments, leading to his retirement after the 1960 season.
After retiring, Falconer worked in Canberra but remained involved with Hawthorn, serving on its board and selection committee. He opposed the proposed merger with Melbourne in the 1990s and chaired a committee that doubled the club's membership. Known for wearing the number 36, he holds the record for most games played in that jersey, despite the "Curse of 36."
