Bob Sloman
Robert Sloman (c. 1898 – December 1970) was an English rugby player known for his time in the 1920s. Born and died in Plymouth, Devon, he played rugby union for Plymouth Albion before switching to rugby league, where he became captain of Oldham.
Sloman earned international recognition, including caps for England against Wales and for Great Britain against Australia and New Zealand. He was part of the British Lions tour in 1924 but did not play in any Test matches during this tour.
In rugby league, Sloman played several significant matches. He appeared in multiple Challenge Cup Finals with Oldham, including a notable victory over Swinton in the 1926-27 season where he scored a try. He also won the Lancashire League and the Lancashire Cup during his career.
Sloman’s professional switch occurred when he moved from Plymouth Albion to Oldham in August 1921, transitioning from rugby union to league. His contributions spanned both codes, leaving a mark on English rugby history.
