Bismarck Henning High School
Bismarck Henning High School (BHHS), located in Bismarck, Illinois, serves students from Rossville, Alvin, Bismarck, Henning, and parts of Danville. As of 2007, the school had 380 students, with a demographic breakdown of 98% white students. The graduation rate for that year was 86.2%, and the dropout rate was 1%, significantly lower than the state average of 4%. BHHS is one of the largest schools in Vermilion County, aside from Danville High School.
Originally named Township High School, BHHS developed an athletic rivalry with Henning High School before merging with it in the 1960s. In 2005, Rossville-Alvin High School closed due to financial difficulties, and most of its students chose to attend BHHS. To accommodate the influx of new students, the school underwent significant renovations, including the construction of a new gymnasium, band room, cafeteria, and a new wing. The original section of Township High School was demolished during this process.
In 2006-2007, Rusty Campbell, a middle school teacher, was promoted to Dean of Students. The following year, the high school principal, Richard Decman, left the district, and Scott Watson, previously the junior high principal, took over as high school principal. Rusty Campbell then assumed the role of junior high principal.
The school is known for its strong athletic programs, which attract fans, alumni, and students. Notable alumni include Dylan Dodd, a 2016 graduate who pitches for the Atlanta Braves.
