Chrono Trigger, released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), is a landmark role-playing game developed by Square (now Square Enix). It was created by a renowned team including Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Yasunori Mitsuda. The game follows Crono, a young protagonist who, with companions Marle and Lucca, travels through time to prevent an apocalyptic future caused by the alien entity Lavos.

Innovative features include its active-time battle system without random encounters and combo attacks, enhancing gameplay strategy. The game's multiple endings, dependent on when Lavos is defeated, add significant replay value.

The series includes "Radical Dreamers," a 1996 text-based side story for Satellaview, which was fan-translated into English. In 1999, "Chrono Cross" for PlayStation continued the story with themes of parallel worlds and shipped 1.5 million copies. Despite potential projects like trademarks for "Chrono Break" and expressions of interest from developers, no new official titles are planned.

Fan efforts to create sequels were halted by Square Enix, highlighting a dedicated fan base but lack of official support. Thus, Chrono Trigger remains a beloved RPG with a rich legacy, awaiting a potential revival despite its dormant status.
