The 2nd Virginia Regiment was a crucial unit in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, established in 1775. Initially, they played significant roles in early battles such as Bunker Hill and contributed to key victories at Trenton and Princeton under Washington's leadership. Transitioning to the Southern Theater in 1778, they faced notable defeats, including the loss at Camden in 1780 and the tragic Waxhaws Massacre. Despite these setbacks, some detachments escaped and continued fighting with Greene's army, participating in battles like Guilford Court House and Hobkirk's Hill. The regiment underwent significant restructuring due to casualties and changing military needs, often operating as smaller units or detachments. Eventually, after enduring various reorganizations and conflicts, the 2nd Virginia Regiment was officially disbanded on November 15, 1783, marking the end of their service in the Revolutionary War.
