Basin Pocket is a suburb in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, with a population of 931 as per the 2021 census. Geographically, it is bordered by the Bremer River to the north and west, and East Ipswich to the east and south. The area is primarily residential, except for parkland along the riverbank. There are no shops within Basin Pocket; however, a small set of basic services exists just beyond its boundary in East Ipswich.
The name "Basin Pocket" originates from "The Basin," a natural widening of the river used by steamers. The area was noted by Allan Cunningham in 1828 and later suggested as a potential settlement site by Rev. Dr. John Lang. A ferry service between Basin Pocket and North Ipswich operated in the late 1860s but no longer exists.
The history of Basin Pocket includes several notable churches: the Primitive Methodist Church opened in 1867, followed by St John's Anglican Church in 1921 and St Philomene's Catholic Church in 1940. Educationally, there are no schools within the suburb; nearby options include Ipswich East State School for primary education and Bremer State High School and Bundamba State Secondary College for secondary education.
