2004 Cook County Illinois elections
The Cook County, Illinois, general election was held on November 2, 2004, coinciding with federal and state races. Primaries were conducted earlier on March 16, 2004. The elections involved several key positions: Clerk of the Circuit Court, Recorder of Deeds, State's Attorney, Board of Review district 3, three seats on the Water Reclamation District Board, and judgeships.
Voter turnout was notably higher in the general election at 74.75% (2,088,727 ballots cast), compared to the primary with 35.02% turnout (38.58% in Chicago, 31.34% in suburban Cook County).
Dorothy A. Brown, Democratic incumbent as Clerk of the Circuit Court, was reelected. Eugene Moore, Democratic Recorder of Deeds since 1999 and elected to a full term in 2000, also won reelection despite Republican nominee Thomas Cox's push to eliminate the office.
Richard A. Devine retained his position as State's Attorney after defeating Tommy H. Brewer in the Democratic primary. For Cook County Board of Review district 3, incumbent Democrat Robert Shaw lost to Larry R. Rogers, Jr., who won a narrow primary race (1,087 votes margin) and later secured reelection unopposed.
Three seats on the Water Reclamation District Board were elected at-large. Judicial elections included partisan races and retention votes for Circuit Court judgeships. Additionally, Democratic and Republican committeemen for Chicago wards were elected during the primaries.
