International Society for Transgenic Technologies
The International Society for Transgenic Technologies (ISTT) is a global organization dedicated to advancing research, communication, and technology exchange in the field of transgenic technologies. Its purpose includes supporting scientific research and education in generating genetically modified model organisms in line with the 3Rs principles (reduction, refinement, replacement). The ISTT promotes the use of science and technology for creating and analyzing genetically modified organisms in biomedical research and biotechnology. It serves as a platform for scientists, students, and professionals from academia and industry to share knowledge and collaborate. The society organizes regular international conferences called Transgenic Technology Meetings every one and a half years. It publishes resources such as books, protocols, and specialist texts, including *Advanced Protocols for Animal Transgenesis – an ISTT Manual*. The ISTT also hosts mailing lists like the public transgenic-list (tg-l) and the members-only ISTT-list to facilitate rapid information exchange. Past presidents of the ISTT include Rebecca Haffner-Krausz (since 2023), Ernst Martin Füchtbauer (2020–2023), Wojtek Auerbach (2017–2019), Jan Parker-Thornburg (2014–2016), and Lluís Montoliu (2006–2014). The ISTT presents several awards, including the ISTT Prize for outstanding contributions to transgenic technologies, with notable winners like Ralph Brinster, Janet Rossant, Mario Capecchi, and Rudolf Jaenisch. The ISTT Young Investigator Award recognizes young scientists advancing the field, such as Feng Zhang and Alexis Komor. Additionally, the 3Rs Award honors advancements aligned with the 3Rs principles. The ISTT collaborates with other organizations like IMGS, AALAS, AAALAC, and FELASA to promote shared goals in transgenic technologies. It also provides expert advice to ...
