Adria Petty, born on November 28, 1974, is an American director, editor, art director, and artist. She is the elder daughter of late rock musician Tom Petty and his first wife, Jane Benyo. Petty is best known for her music video work with artists like Beyoncé and Regina Spektor. She attended the Tisch School of the Arts' graduate program before beginning her career. Petty gained experience by assisting directors such as Penny Marshall, Jonathan Demme, and Jonathan Stack. In 1998, she collaborated on a site-specific installation at PS1, a modern art gallery in New York, titled "Low Flame," which explored the life of a lonely garbage man who built friends from trash. She has directed music videos for artists including Coldplay & Rihanna, Kings of Leon, Macy Gray, Corinne Bailey Rae, and The Veronicas. Petty also created tour visuals for The Who in 2005 and worked as a freelance marketing consultant at Sire Records, where she developed campaigns for Regina Spektor. Petty’s documentary *Paris, Not France* premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008, while her second documentary, *Regina Spektor: Live in London*, was released in 2010. In 2011, she released the short film *NU-6*, inspired by a hearing exam after suffering ruptured eardrums. Petty was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards in 2012 for her work on Beyoncé’s "Countdown," Coldplay and Rihanna’s "Princess of China," and Regina Spektor’s "All the Rowboats."
