Art Omi
Art Omi, formerly known as Omi International Arts Center, is a non-profit organization located in Ghent, New York, in Columbia County. Established in 1992 by Francis J. Greenburger, Sandi Slone, John Cross, and others, it provides residencies for writers, artists, architects, musicians, dancers, and choreographers. The organization takes its name from Omi, a hamlet near the Hudson River Valley, approximately two and a half hours from New York City.
Art Omi’s campus includes Ledig House, an 1830 farmhouse converted into the central meeting place, and a sculpture and architecture park featuring over 70 permanent and temporary exhibitions. The main compound comprises three buildings with guest rooms, conference spaces, a library, and communal areas. Public facilities like the Charles B. Benenson Visitors Center & Gallery also operate on site.
The organization hosts three types of exhibitions: Architecture, Art, and Sculpture, showcasing works by artists such as Wendy Evans Joseph, Niles Harris, Olaf Breuning, and others. Art Omi offers five residency programs across various disciplines, including a Critics/Curators-in-Residence program. Educational initiatives include camps and workshops for children and families. Additionally, the organization hosts talks, exhibitions, concerts, and performances open to the public.
Art Omi raises funds through philanthropic and corporate foundations, as well as individual donors, with a major annual benefit event in New York City. The facility is also available for corporate retreats during its off-season.
