"A Union In Wait" is a 2001 American documentary film about same-sex marriage, directed by Ryan Butler. It was the first documentary on the topic to air nationally in the United States. The film focuses on Susan Parker and Wendy Scott, members of Wake Forest Baptist Church, who sought to hold their union ceremony at Wake Forest University's Wait Chapel in 1997 but were denied. Their fight against the university's decision sparked a local controversy and national attention. Eventually, they held the ceremony at the chapel in 2000.

The documentary features interviews with notable figures such as Andrew Sullivan, Barney Frank, Robert Knight, Jimmy Creech, Fred Phelps, and Candace Gingrich, among others. It was primarily filmed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Wake Forest University's campus, with additional footage shot in Washington, D.C., at events like the Millennium March on Washington, Family Research Council headquarters, and Andrew Sullivan's home.

The film was distributed by the Sundance Channel for television in 2001 and screened at various international festivals. It was also released on video by Frameline and later made available on Amazon Video in 2015.

After the film's release, Susan Parker became an associate pastor at Wake Forest Baptist Church, while Ryan Butler worked as a television editor for WJLA-TV, National Geographic Channel, and CNN. He later moved to North Carolina to work for the state assembly.
