Samson Siasia

Samson Siasia, born on 14 August 1967, is a Nigerian former professional football striker and coach. During his playing career, he notably played for FC Nantes, where he won the French league title in 1994–95. He also played in Australia, Belgium, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. Representing Nigeria internationally, he participated in 51 matches, scoring 13 goals, including in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the 1994 African Nations Cup. He was part of the team that won the 1992 African Nations Cup bronze medal.

As a coach, Siasia led Nigeria's under-20 team to the finals of the 2005 Under-20 World Cup and secured the U-20 African Youth Championship. He also coached the national U-23 team to an Olympic silver medal in 2008 and won the inaugural Intercontinental Cup earlier that year. In 2010, he became the head coach of the Nigeria national team but was dismissed in October 2011 for failing to qualify for the 2012 African Nations Cup.

In February 2016, Siasia returned as the Super Eagles' chief coach until his suspension by FIFA in August 2019 due to match-fixing allegations, which initially imposed a lifetime ban but was reduced to five years in 2021. He has also been linked with coaching roles for Rwanda and Cameroon but has not taken those positions.
