Peter Knight composer

Peter Knight (1917–1985) was an English musical arranger, conductor, and composer known for his contributions to music, television, and film. Born in Exmouth, Devon, he began his musical career at a young age, performing his first broadcast at seven. After working various jobs and serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II, he joined the Sidney Lipton Band and later formed the Peter Knight Singers, which remained active for three decades.

Knight's career included work as a musical director in London’s West End and on television, where he composed scores for films like *Curse of the Crimson Altar* and *Sunstruck*. He collaborated with notable artists such as Petula Clark, Sammy Davis Jr., and Richard Carpenter, contributing to The Carpenters' Christmas specials. He was also known for his orchestration of The Moody Blues’ *Days of Future Passed*, particularly the single "Nights in White Satin."

Knight composed theme tunes for TV shows like *Thank Your Lucky Stars* and worked on notable films including *Tess* and *Quest for Fire*. His discography includes albums under his own name and collaborations with artists like Ted Hockridge. He died of lung cancer in 1985, leaving a legacy that continues to be honoured through awards and his enduring musical contributions.
