Orlando International Airport Intermodal Terminal
The Orlando International Airport Intermodal Terminal, also known as Brightline Orlando Station and South Airport Intermodal Terminal, is an intermodal passenger transport hub located at Orlando International Airport in Florida. Partially funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, it serves as the current terminus for Brightline's inter-city rail service to Miami via the Florida East Coast Railway. The terminal building and adjacent parking garage opened on November 17, 2017, and are connected to the main airport terminal approximately one mile away via an automated people mover system. Brightline began revenue service to the complex on September 22, 2023. The facility primarily reuses plans from the proposed Florida High Speed Rail system, which was canceled when Governor Rick Scott rejected federal funding. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority had already invested in improvements, such as extended south taxiway bridges, now utilized by Brightline. As part of a $684 million intermodal complex, a 2,400-space parking garage was constructed. Future plans include a potential 5.5-mile extension of the SunRail commuter rail line to the airport terminal. Options under consideration involve either a direct spur from the existing SunRail line or a transfer station connecting to a light rail system. Additionally, there are proposals for a light rail connection to International Drive, which could link the airport to locations like the Orange County Convention Center and Florida Mall.
