Jamestown Indiana

Jamestown is situated in Jackson Township, Boone County, and Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. The town's population was 958 at the 2010 census, an increase from 886 reported in 2000. Established in 1830 and platted in 1832, Jamestown served as the original county seat before being relocated in 1831 due to its distance from the center. The town's railroad history began in 1869 with the arrival of a line now part of CSX Transportation. Interurban service started in 1912.

Covering an area of 0.88 square miles, Jamestown is entirely land-based. Demographically, the population is predominantly White, with smaller percentages of Asian and multi-racial individuals, and a slight Hispanic presence. Both census reports highlight similar household structures and age distributions, with median ages around 36. Gender statistics are included for both periods.

Jamestown's government consists of a three-member council and a Clerk-Treasurer, managing police and fire services through marshals and volunteers. Utilities are provided by Jamestown Municipal Utilities. Education is supported by Western Boone Community School Corporation and Northwest Hendricks School Corporation (Tri-West), with access to the Tri-Area Library.

Notable residents include racecar driver Davey Hamilton and Herman B Wells, the 11th President of Indiana University.
