Green Language album
"Green Language," the second studio album by Glaswegian producer Russell Whyte under the alias Rustie, was released on Warp Records on August 25, 2014. The album was previewed with the track "Raptor," which received its first radio play by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 in June 2014. It features collaborations with D Double E, Danny Brown, Gorgeous Children, and Redinho.
The title of the album is inspired by "the language of the birds." Following his previous work, which he described as "over-the-top," Rustie aimed for a more serious tone with this release, even scrapping an entire album that did not meet his standards. The album received mixed reviews; while it was praised for its creativity and variety, some critics noted a lack of consistency. Metacritic awarded it a score of 69, indicating generally favorable reviews. Rustie himself reflected on feeling pulled in different creative directions during production.
The album's cover art was notable, earning recognition from Complex and Pitchfork as some of the best album covers of 2014.
