Gerry Keenan

Gerard Patrick Keenan, born on 25 July 1954, is an English former footballer who played 240 league and cup games in the English Football League for Bury, Port Vale, and Rochdale between 1975 and 1984. He began his professional career with Bury after refusing a youth contract from Liverpool due to his father's objections. During his three years at Bury (1975–1978), he scored three goals in 71 league games. In 1978, he joined Port Vale for £15,000 and played 44 league and cup games in the 1979–80 season. However, recurring knee injuries limited his appearances, leading to his free transfer from Port Vale in May 1982.

Keenan then moved to Rochdale on a week-to-week basis after receiving an insurance payout and stayed there for two years. He later transitioned into management, serving as player-manager at Accrington Stanley (1984–1986), Ashton United, Rossendale United (with two spells), and Bacup Borough.

After retiring from football, Keenan worked as a gas fitter. He also served as a matchday ambassador at Port Vale's ground, Vale Park, from 2002 to 2011 but left due to disputes over parking access. He later returned but eventually parted ways in September 2019 after moving to Morecambe.
