Ben Gordon
Ben Gordon had a notable basketball career marked by significant achievements before facing personal challenges post-retirement. He played college basketball for the University of Connecticut (UConn), leading the team to an NCAA championship in 2004. Drafted third overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2004, he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award as a rookie. Gordon went on to play for several teams including the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats, Orlando Magic, and had a brief stint with the Golden State Warriors. He also played in the NBA D-League with the Texas Legends.
Internationally, Gordon was eligible to represent Great Britain due to his birth there and aimed to compete in the 2012 Olympics but couldn't due to trade issues. He represented Great Britain in EuroBasket qualifiers and previously played for the US at the Pan American Games.
Post-retirement, Gordon faced legal troubles and mental health struggles, including multiple arrests and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, which he openly discussed. Despite these challenges, he was recognized for his contributions when inducted into the Huskies of Honor by UConn in 2025.
