Amber Halliday

Amber Jae Halliday, born on 13 November 1979 in Adelaide, South Australia, is a former elite rower and cyclist known for her significant achievements in lightweight rowing. She began her rowing career at Pembroke School and later joined the Adelaide University Boat Club. As part of the South Australian team, she competed in lightweight quad sculls from 1999 to 2004 and again in 2006–2008, winning titles in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008. Notably, she stroke the crew to victories with margins exceeding seven seconds in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008.

Halliday represented Australia internationally, winning her first World Championship at the u/23 level in 1999. She went on to secure two gold medals (in lightweight quad sculls in 2001 and double scull in 2007) and one silver medal (in double scull in 2002). At the Olympic Games, she competed in 2004 and 2008, with her most notable performance being a fourth-place finish in the lightweight double sculls at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Transitioning to cycling in late 2008, Halliday joined the South Australian Sports Institute squad. She won her first major cycle race, the NZCT Women's Tour of New Zealand, in February 2009 and was awarded the 2009 Amy Gillett Foundation Scholarship. Her career took a serious turn in January 2011 when she sustained injuries from a racing accident at Victoria Park Racecourse, Adelaide, which was later documented by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's *Contact Sport*.
