Alabama State Route 55

State Route 55 (SR 55) is a 58.758-mile highway in southern Alabama, extending from the Florida state line at Florala to an intersection with SR 106 near Georgiana in Butler County. It begins as Florida State Road 85 and continues northward through areas such as Andalusia, River Falls, and McKenzie before joining US 31 south of Georgiana.

The route passes through the Conecuh National Forest and intersects US 29/US 84 at Andalusia, forming a concurrency. From there, it splits from US 84 near River Falls, heading north to join US 31 near McKenzie. The highway then continues toward Georgiana, where it terminates at SR 106, which connects to Interstate 65.

SR 55 has been significant since its creation in 1928. In 1978, a four-lane bypass replaced the winding route from McKenzie to Andalusia. A bypass around Georgiana was completed in the mid-2000s, improving connectivity with I-65. The section south of Andalusia has remained largely unchanged except for the addition of a downtown bypass in 1995.

The highway is increasingly popular among travelers heading to the Fort Walton/Destin area.
