201516 SSC Napoli season
The 2015–16 season marked Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli's 70th year in Serie A. The team participated in three competitions: Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Europa League. In Serie A, they finished second overall and spent much of the mid-season period in first place. Gonzalo Higuaín, their star striker, set a new record for most goals in a single Serie A season with 36, surpassing Gunnar Nordahl's previous record of 35.
In Coppa Italia, Napoli was eliminated by Inter Milan in the quarter-finals. In the UEFA Europa League, they achieved a perfect 6–0–0 record in the group stage, scoring 22 goals. However, they were defeated 2–1 on aggregate by Villarreal in the round of 32.
During the season, there were significant coaching changes. Rafael Benítez left to join Real Madrid in May 2015 and was replaced by Maurizio Sarri in June 2016. Financially, Napoli spent €32.2 million on loans for incoming players and generated €10.6 million from loans of outgoing players, resulting in a net income of €21.6 million.
